The final bell of the Mayweather McGregor sounded the other night. A 10-round bout of blow-by-blow boxing that may or may not have lived up to the hype surrounding it depending upon whose corner you were in.

While I’ve never followed boxing too closely, it’s as impressive as it can be gruesome considering the kind of punishment two of the world’s most competitive athletes can inflict on each other.

Now, again, if you’re not a boxing fan or have never found hand-to-hand combat appealing, no worries, but take a deep breath and consider this:

As humans, we continuously self-inflict hidden forms of punishment on our bodies every day in our modern form of living.

Hidden?

Well sure, we’re not taking a punch to the face exactly, but without incorporating specific forms of massage therapy into our daily life, the long-term effects can be quite debilitating.

Think of it like this for a moment.

From the moment you wake up each day, consider all the time you spend sitting. Just sitting.

Take today for instance.

At the breakfast table, in the car during your traffic-laden commute, at your desk at work, while you’re at lunch, then back at your desk again to finish your day, and on and on.

Sitting alone can have disastrous effects on your body and its mobility stability patterns.

And without massage therapy to work out the physical distress, such an unsuspecting activity can lead to several issues like; weak glutes, tight hip flexors, a weak core and back, a tight chest, and so on.  All of these things lead to all sorts of shoulder problems, mobility limitations, and most notably back pain.  So sure, while we’re not exactly taking a punch we are punishing our bodies every day.  Sure, an occasional sports massage or deep tissue massage can be helpful for some short-term relief but a more comprehensive massage therapy plan is needed to provide the lasting relief you deserve.  And while you might be saying, I don’t have enough time, it costs too much or this muscle soreness thing will work itself out on its own; we want to share some things to incorporate into your daily life if you’re able as well as an easy long term resolution called Structural Integration that we specialize in here at Matsuno Wellness.

For starters, break the sitting cycle. Here are a few easy tips.

  1. Every Hour on The Hour:
    • Get up and move. Don’t overthink it. No need for an alarm, no specific time or distance to adhere to, and nothing too crazy but it’ll look something like this.
    • Walk around the office for 2-5 minutes each hour, maybe get outside if you’re able, take the long way to the restroom, abandon the elevator, and find the stairs. All of these things will contribute to you having to leverage mobility and turning on muscle systems that aren’t activated in the same way while seated.
  2. Pop a Squat
    • We don’t really care how or where you do it, just make it happen. Do 10 air squats in a row, Squatting at Matsuno Wellnessmaybe add them at the end of each of your walks throughout the day. Again, don’t get bogged down in the details. 10 a day is all you can sneak in, but that’s fine. 20? Even better. Oh, you can do more? Well look at you, let’s do it.
    • Here’s the deal, people don’t do some of these things, particularly at work because they look strange. Fine. Go to the restroom and bust them out in a stall when there’s not a lot of traffic in there. Do them at the house while you’re at lunch. Have you your own office? Great, close the blinds and squat your way right out of unnecessary pain that sitting all day will contribute
  3. Make Deliberate Movement More of a Priority in Your Life
    • Basically, if you don’t move it, you lose it. It’s simple

Now while these things all help fend off issues that can come from being seated they’re only a start. We’d love to see you here to assess your body to get you back to full health and feeling your very best. Massage therapy and Structural Integration are great approaches to get you back on track.

The forms of treatment we provide feel great, think of them as your white sandy beach of massage therapy.

We say that because we look at your body’s segments granularly and identify weaknesses or limitations in specific tissue systems.

Once you’ve been assessed we treat problem areas by organizing those systems until we’ve got the whole picture worked out leaving you feeling serene.

Our collection of massage therapies is discreet and brings noticeable feelings of improvement after just one session.

It’s just the kind of treatment that will allow you to revel in the greatest pleasures in life, just as you did before you began to experience pain and discomfort.

We do it with a treatment protocol called Structural Integration.

While you’re experiencing it we’re hard at work understanding the state of your body’s muscles, connective tissues, and structural systems to determine the best way to approach your entire body as a single unit so that we may put you back together again.

And it’ll go something like this.

You’ll hop on one of our full-sized pillow-plush massage tables in the comfort of your own private space as we knead your knots into oblivion.

What we do is a bit more scientific than that but you get the gist.

We’re looking forward to introducing you to all the benefits of structural integration.
